Celebrating Success

Business for the Arts, Canada's national association of business leaders who support the arts, announced August 14, 2013 the successful completion of the 2011-2013 artsVest™ program in Ontario, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatchewan and Vancouver.

A tour funded by a Culture on the Go grant opened doors for Saskatoon band Reignwolf and led to an opportunity to perform at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago this summer.

On 18 May 2013, Saskatoon artist Tammy Lu will open her latest art exhibition in the Fi─żakovo Castle Museum in Slovakia. The opening is part of this year's Night of Museums programme, a Europe-wide event organised under the aegis of the European Council and UNESCO.

The Core Series, a unique collaboration between PAVED Arts and the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, combines orchestral music and media art to increase accessibility and encourage new audience development.

Big River Cree, a group from northern Saskatchewan, performed at the 2013 Native American Music Awards with Canadian singer Nelly Furtado on Friday, May 10, 2013. The group also received the award for Debut Group of the Year.

The film, Life of Pi, adapted from Saskatoon author Yann Martel's award-winning novel, was awarded four statues at the 2013 Academy Awards.

Throughout 2012, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year, individuals across Canada were awarded medals for their exceptional service to the community. This includes a number of prominent members of the Saskatchewan arts community, such as philanthropist Dr. Jacqui Shumiatcher.

Congratulations to the Saskatchewan nominees for the 2013 JUNO Awards: The Sheepdogs for Single of the Year, Album of the Year and Group of the Year; and Donny Parenteau for Aboriginal Album of the Year.

The Ukrainian Palette of Pavlychenko and Saskatoon School of Dance were featured on the Rick Mercer Report on CBC TV on Tuesday, January 22, 2013.

Saskatoon author Candace Savage has won this year's Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction for A Geography of Blood: Unearthing Memory From a Prairie Landscape.
