With the support of the Saskatchewan Arts Board's Culture on the Go program, Regina musician Val Halla is poised to break into the US market with her ambitious new tour. She performs in Toronto at Canadian Music Week from March 9 to 13, 2010, and then embarks on a tour of the United States with more than 50 performances booked in Texas, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New York, California, Georgia, Maryland and Colorado from March 16 through December 31, 2010. Before the Toronto and US legs of the tour, Halla sang with OYE! at the Saskatchewan Pavilion at the Olympics, and at other venues in Vancouver and Victoria in February and early March.

Halla, now 25 years old, has been playing music and writing songs since she was six. She recently released her new album, No Place, on March 4, with the digital release coming out March 9. Her song, "The Bad Girl Touch," was reviewed positively in the November 2009 issue of Guitar Player magazine, and the song received an honorable mention in Billboard's 2009 Song Contest. She was also featured in Guitar World magazine's 2009/10 Holiday Buyer's Guide, which is still on shelves now. She describes her music as "grungy roots rock," and her show posters often refer to her style as "Janis Joplin meets Sheryl Crow." Her website is valhallaonline.com.

Culture on the Go grants help make it possible for Saskatchewan artists to further their careers and share their art, music or performances with people in our province and beyond. The pilot program gives people everywhere the opportunity to better appreciate the fine work of our artists and gives more insight into Saskatchewan's strong and vibrant culture. Culture on the Go touring projects are supported with funding provided to the Saskatchewan Arts Board by the Government of Saskatchewan, through the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport.
